"Hello, my name is Doris: I
have a 20 year old daughter.
She is a drug addict who
lives away from home. For a
long time, I had the idea that I
was going to be able to solve
her problems. I did everything
she and anyone else told me
to do. My husband and I took
her out of the US and tried so
many ways to solve her
problem that it became the
spotlight of our lives. Little by
little, and without perceiving
it, we became lonely people.
We didn't talk to each other
nor our family, friends or
anyone else for that matter,
we were suffering! One day
we had the opportunity to go
to a Nueva Vida retreat. We
opened our hearts there to
the Lord and invited Him into
our lives. From that day on,
we began a learning
process, about how we are
as sick as our daughter. We
developed Co-dependency;
it was not only hurting us, but
her also. We now know that
nothing we have done before
helped her in any way!
Today, we have peace, the
first gift I received from the
Lord. We are learning day by
day about her and our
disease by attending
meetings regularly. In these
meetings we found
understanding, knowledge,
experience and most of all,
the message that “we are not
alone”. There are many
brothers and sisters willing to
share, support, and offer a
word of wisdom when we feel
weak. The Lord is using
Nueva Vida as the instrument
to help us overcome this trial.
Praise the Lord!"
"Hi, my name is Joseph
and I am a grateful
recovering addict/alcoholic.
I was born and raised in
Miami, Fl. and am 28 years
old. I lived in a house where
family dysfunction was a
normal way of life.
My experiments as a
teenager led me down a
road ending with full blown
addiction and alcoholism.
These had the negative
consequences of jail,
hospitals and dropping out
of college, just to name a
few. I was involved in
criminal activity and had
total disregard for my family
and life. My drugs of choice
were alcohol(yes its a
drug), marijuana, cocaine,
acid, and others.
I'd
been sent to many
treatment centers and none
of them worked for very
long. It felt like I was going
to die, that what it took for
me to totally surrender. I
surrendered at a Nueva
Vida retreat and met Jesus
Christ. Ever since then, I've
been walking with the Lord
clean and sober now for
over 5 years.God Bless.."
Nueva Vida
Testimonies
Hi my name is Toni, I am 57
years old and a very grateful
member of Nueva Vida. I
joined the family of Nueva
Vida 7 years ago, right after
my beautiful addicted son was
released from prison. I
assisted at a spanish retreat
where I brought my son,
convinced to see him stop his
abuse of drugs and alcohol.
To my surprise, something
wonderful happened to me. I
had carried the guilt and
shame of having failed as a
mother for over 15 years, as
well as the anguish of seeing
my son go in and out of rehabs
and prison. Over the course of
this 3 day retreat the weight
was lifted and experienced the
freedom that only a close walk
with the God and his people
can give. Ever since then, I've
been involved in the lives of
parents and all those who
come seeking help for their
loved ones.
